ROME TOWNSHIP — Two eastern Lawrence County men face preliminary hearings Friday in Lawrence County Municipal Court in a weekend rape case.

Kyle Hayes, 19, of 106 Walnut St., Proctorville, faces one count of rape, and Michael “Chris” Fulks, 384 Private Drive 1285, Chesapeake, faces one count of complicity.

Both are first-degree felonies.

The alleged incident happened around 2 a.m. Saturday in a vehicle in Rome Township. The victim is reported to be a 15-year-old female from the area, according to Lawrence County Sheriff’s Detective Andrew Sisler.

“The victim and the suspects were familiar with each other,” Sisler said. “Alcohol was involved in the case.”

After an investigation conducted by Sisler and sheriff’s deputy Scott Wilson, Hayes and Fulks were arrested and brought to the Lawrence County Jail.

Currently, both men are out on $100,000 bond each that was posted after their arraignment in municipal court on Monday.

According to the court Web site, Hayes has hired attorney Roger Smith and Fulks has hired attorney D. L. McWhorter.
