FAYETTE TOWNSHIP — The Ohio Fire Marshal’s office has been asked to investigate the cause of a fire overnight Sunday that destroyed an unoccupied house at 60 Township Road 1335 in Fayette Township.

Burlington-Fayette Fire Chief Ryan Vaughn said firefighters were alerted just before midnight that a single-story frame house was on fire. Firefighters left the scene early this morning but were summoned again just after 6 a.m. when the fire rekindled. They remained on the scene as of 8:30 a.m. today.

“I drove back by the house at five or so. I’m curious as to how it rekindled,” Vaughn said.

No one was home at the time of the fire.

“As far as I know the occupant of the house is in a nursing home and has been for a year or so,” Vaughn said.

Information on the cause of the fire and where it started was not available as of press time. Burlington-Fayette received mutual aid from Fayette Township 2 and South Point fire departments.
