Music for your ears. The 23rd annual Buckeye Classic Band Competition will be 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10 at Tanks Memorial Stadium.

The annual event draws roughly a dozen bands from throughout Ohio and the Tri-State to compete for superior ratings and for Ohio bands to advance to the State Marching Band Competition in November.

“Right now we’re at 13 but there are two or three more we’re hoping to fit into the schedule,” Ironton High School Band Director Jeff Sanders said.

The competition is, Sanders said, a large draw in terms of attendance as well.

“Last year we had 3,000 people attending, including the band students. This is likely the single biggest week in the band’s school schedule,” Sanders said.

What is the band traveling the farthest this year? Sycamore High School, in Cincinnati. The competition is sponsored by the Ironton Band Boosters.
