Village seeking full-time officer

COAL GROVE — The Village of Coal Grove’s search for a full-time police officer has experienced a setback.

The council had been accepting applications for a full-time officer and appointed Gleo Runyon to the position at the regular meeting Tuesday night. Runyon, who had served on the police department for three years, turned down the position.

Clerk-Treasurer Debbie Fields said the council has received six other applications. Two of the applications were from officers within the department and four were from applicants outside the department.

Fields said she is not positive whether the council will accept new applications or choose from among the six current applications.

The vacancy comes after Eric Spurlock was appointed to the position of chief after former chief Jason Bloomfield left to accept a position at the Federal Correctional Institution in Ashland.
