FRANKLIN FURANCE — When coach Bucky Bridges told his girls it was time to step up or sit down, they stood tall.

After losing leading scorer and rebounder Adrianne Blankenship to fouls with four minutes to play, Green rallied from a 5-point deficit and beat the South Gallia Lady Rebels 55-51 Wednesday.

“I told the girls it was gut check time,” said Bridges. “I told them they can either win or throw in the towel. We have a lot of young players and I didn’t know how they would respond, but they responded well.”

Green was able to overcome the loss of Blankenship by using center Lauren Jones to help bring the ball up the floor. The Lady Bobcats also got a career-high 18 points from Ali Suttles.

Blankenship finished with 14 points, 9 assists and 3 steals. Jones had 12 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists. Carlee Pollard grabbed 7 rebounds and Gidget Timberman 6.

“This was probably our best offensive performance of the season. We didn’t just look to Adrianne. Everybody stepped up,” said Bridges.

Blankenship and Jones combined for 11 points in the first quarter and it was 16-16.

Blankenship got 5 more points in the second quarter as Green went up 29-27 at the half.

Suttles took over in the third quarter and scored 6 points as Green led 43-38.

After Blankenship fouled out, Suttles scored 6 and Timberman had two big steals for layups to trigger the comeback. Jones had 5 of her assists in the quarter.
