Tackett, Elswick lead Div. 3 All-Ohio picks

The Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers are in the state tournament. Teammates Brea Tackett and Nikki Elswick are on the all-state team.

Tackett and Elswick headline five local girls who were named to the Associated Press All-Ohio basketball teams.

Named to the Division III special mention team was the 5-foot-2 senior guard Tackett while the 6-foot junior Elswick was honorable mention.

Chesapeake Lady Panthers’ sophomore forward Amanda Ruffner was also named honorable mention.

Tackett averaged 12.5 points a game to lead the Ironton offense. She also averaged 3.0 assists and 2.6 steals while shooting 41 percent from the field and 82 percent from the foul line.

Elswick nearly averaged a double-double with 10.3 points and 8.9 rebounds a contest. She shot 61 percent from the floor.

In Division IV, Green Lady Bobcats’ senior guard Adrianne Blankenship was a third team All-Ohio pick while Symmes Valley Lady Vikings’ Jessie Morris was honorable mention.

The 5-8 Blankenship averaged 14.5 points a game and 10.1 rebounds. She also had 5.8 assists and 4.7 steals. A four-year starter, Blankenship eclipsed the 1,000-point career scoring total.

Morris — a 5-2 junior guard — average 11.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 3.1 steals for the Lady Vikings.
