Huntington Hammer preparing for opener

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Football season isn’t over, it’s just moved indoors.

The Huntington Hammer — a member of the Ultimate Indoor Football League — is practicing at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena and will host the Canton Cougars at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20.

The roster will be headed by quarterback Freddie Ray who played at Ohio University.

Local fans will also remember Ray who played for the now defunct arena team the Huntington Heroes.

Also on the roster are six former Marshall Thundering Herd players.

The former Herd players include quarterback Scott Grizzle, wide receivers Terrick Thomas, Mark Littlejohn and Hiram Moore, linebacker Andre Portis, defensive end Dennis Thornton and offensive lineman Erik Vint.

The Hammer also had two-way lineman Chris Foster of Akron and defensive lineman, running back Joshua Kaltsas of Michigan State, wide receiver Nate Wright of Oregon State, and wide receiver Dray Mason of Purdue.

The roster also includes three players from Morehead State plus players from eight West Virginia colleges.

Tickets for home games range between $7 to $25. Group sales are available for 20 or more people and season tickets can be purchased for $35 for all seven home games.
