SOUTH POINT — The Fairland Dragons proved their is strength in numbers.

The Dragons won just two events but used there overall depth to win the Arthur Lydiard Classic Friday.

The Dragons had 138 points to runner-up Ironton’s 84 points even though their only two wins were by Raine Wireman in the 800-meter run and Tanner Mattie in the 3200 meters.

Ironton held some of its runners for Saturday’s Charleston Gazette Relays but still turned in an outstanding performance in the 4×800 relay.

Pierce Reeves, Adam Stumbo, Dustin Moritz and Gary Monroe blitz their way to a first place finish with an 8:31.39 clocking.

Moritz also finished second in the pole vault and the 800 meters.

Portsmouth won the girls’ meet followed by River Valley, Coal Grove and Fairland.

Rock Hill will hold its invitational this Friday.
