COAL GROVE — The Coal Grove Hornets’ offense was like the facets in a sink. They were hot one night and cold the next.

After shooting 87 percent on Tuesday in the semifinals of the Coal Grove Dr. Paulus Heart Care Holiday Tournament, the Hornets were only 13 of 54 from the field in Wednesday’s championship game for 24 percent.

As a result Coal Grove scored just 16 points in the second half as the Lawrence County Bulldogs rallied in the fourth quarter for a 42-39 win over the Hornets to win the holiday tournament.

A.J. Cyrus had 10 points including 4 of 4 at the line. Logan Finley added 6 points as he made 4 of 5 free throws. Hayden Kiser also had 10 points and made both his foul shots.

The Bulldogs (5-5) were able to convert 11 of 15 free throws and Coal Grove made just 9 of 19 attempts.

Conor Markins had 11 points for the Hornets (6-2).

Lawrence County led 8-7 after the first quarter but Coal Grove came back to grab a 23-17 halftime lead.

The Hornets were up 30-25 after three quarters before the Bulldogs rallied to outscore Coal Grove 17-9 in the final quarter.
