SSU hall of fame banquet and homecoming set

PORTSMOUTH — Shawnee State University has a full slate of activities planned for homecoming weekend. Homecoming is Saturday, Feb. 11 as the Bears face conference foe Georgetown beginning at 2:00 p.m.

On Friday, Homecoming Weekend opens up with the Hall of Fame Banquet. The Banquet will take place in the Sodexo Ballroom with social hour beginning at 6 p.m. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. with the ceremony beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Rick Mayne, with local radio station WNXT, will emcee the event and Shawnee State alumnus Ray Bear will be guest speaker.

During the banquet the Shawnee State Athletic Department will be honoring the Ralph Kavanaugh Home Team Award Winner and longtime basketball announcer Skip Hickman, and 2012 Hall of Fame inductee, women’s basketball standout Brandi Munn.

Tickets for the banquet are $20 and can be purchased online. Past Hall of Fame members can RSVP their complimentary banquet ticket by contacting Sports Information Director Kara Bobo at (740) 351-3313.

A Tent Village will be set up outside the Athletic Center with T-shirts, Henna tattoos, Greek Pins/Buttons, $10,000 shot signup, raffle tickets and other contests.

On Saturday, various activities for homecoming will be taking place throughout the day (times are approximate):

· Noon: A pregame tailgate will be taking place inside the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts, with food and beverages and entertainment.

· 1:30 p.m.: Bear Club members will have use of the Hospitality Room until the conclusion of men’s game halftime.

· 2 p.m.: The Shawnee State Women’s Basketball team will take on the Tigers of Georgetown College.

· 2:30 p.m.: The Hospitality Room will be open until the end of the game to all registered alumni with passes distributed by Alumni Council at game gate.

· 2:45 p.m.: Man vs. Food eating contest during women’s game halftime.

· 3 p.m.: Homecoming Court, crowning of the King and Queen.

· 3:45 p.m.: the $10,000 Homecoming Shootout during the men’s game halftime. Three random entrants from raffle tickets will have an opportunity to win for shots with a three point shot at $500, a timeline at $1,000 and a half court for the big winner of $10,000.

· 4:30 p.m.: Shawnee State Men’s Team will square off against the Tigers.

· 9 p.m. Homecoming Dance for students and alumni at the University Center Sodexo Ball Room on the second floor.

During the games, there will be several give-a-ways and contests. Following the games, everyone is welcome to the 2012 Homecoming Bear Hopping, Community Pub Crawl.
