A little fun in the sun

The students at the Open Door School took full advantage of a sunny day. They diligently planted flowers around the school.

“The kids love it (planting) and they love being outside,” said vocational teacher Kathy Conner. “The students love to use their hands.”

One student, Steven Martin, couldn’t wait to get his hands dirty.

“I like to plant the flowers and help them dig,” Martin said.

Another student, Alisha Adkins, echoed those words.

“I love putting them in the ground,” Adkins said. “When they get bigger, they are pretty.”

The Lawrence-Scioto Solid Waste District sponsored the third annual event. Also, Justin Wurtzler, manager of the Lowes in South Point, offered discounts on supplies and donated a park bench this year.
