Ground breaking at Collins Career Center

GETAWAY-After nine years of planning and waiting, the groundbreaking for the new renovation on the Collins Career Center took place Wednesday.

“This is a very exciting day in the history of the career center,” Superintendent Stephen Dodgion said. “This is a long time coming.”

Dodgion addressed the student body.

“We are going to start major renovations to completely re-do the career center,” Dodgion said.

Dodgion started the planning for the renovation project in 2003. With the passage of the half-mill levy during the most recent elections, Dodgion was able to move forward with the renovation project.

“We were one of the few levies that passed in the state of Ohio,” Dodgion said.

Ohio Facilities Commission representative Rick Swartz gave the audience something to look forward too.

“It will be a state of the art 21st century learning facility that will be second to none when completed,” Swartz said.

My complements to Stephen Dodgion and the voters of Lawrence County Ohio in their efforts to further quality education. Oakley C. Collins would be proud. He and I had our philosophical differences but I had respect for him especially when it came to education. He practiced the political art with exceptional expertise.
