Fairland boys’ 4×800 relay heads to state

THE PLAINS — The first entry to the state track meet has been made.

The Fairland Dragons’ 4×800-meter relay team finished third in the event on the first day of the Division II regional meet held Thursday at Athens High School.

The top four finishers in each event qualify for the state meet June 1-2 at Ohio State University.

The Dragons’ quartet of Raine Wireman, Ryan Stewart, Jalen Brooks and Logan Rowe ran an 8:16.17 time to place third.

The Lady Dragons’ 4×800 relay team was seventh as Sydney Pettit, Jessice Price, Megan Ashton and Shanan Ashton ran a 10:15.02 time.

In the boys’ long jump, Fairland’s Kenny Smith was 11th with a leap of 19-8.25 and Chesapeake’s Patrick Hintz was 15th with a 17-6.5 distance.

In the girls’ shot put, Chesapeake’s Beth McWhorter and Jordan Porter finished ninth and 10th, respectively. McWhorter threw 35-7.5 while Porter had a 34-6.25 heave.

The second day of the meet will be Saturday.
