River Sweep is Saturday

Published 12:00am Sunday, June 10, 2012

It’s that time of year again.

The annual River Sweep, sponsored by the Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission, will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday.

River Sweep is an annual six-state event that extends the entire length of the Ohio River from Pittsburgh, Pa., to Cairo, IL. Last year, more than 21,000 volunteers participated in the event.

The three sites in Lawrence County where volunteers will meet are the Center Street Boat Landing in Ironton, the South Point Boat Ramp and the Guyan Boat Ramp near Chesapeake. From there, dozens of volunteers will fan out along the riverbanks and clean up litter.

Coca Cola Bottling is the primary Lawrence County sponsor.
