CHESAPEAKE — An upcoming spaghetti fundraiser dinner has as its goal raising money to continue repair work at the Chesapeake Community Center.

“We are trying to get enough money ahead to start on the gym floor,” Ruth Damron said. “It has to be refinished and it is going to cost us anywhere between $3,000 and $4,000. Maybe more.”

The dinner is set for Saturday from 2 to 7 p.m. at. St. Ann’s Church in Chesapeake.

Damron is also trying to get grant money to fix the parking lot.

“We are hoping to get it repaved,” she said. “There is money available. Right now we are in a holding pattern. I think we do have the money to get this done.”

Price tag on that is expected at $19,500 for new pavement and walkways with handicapped ramps.

Recently Damron also asked Lawrence County Commissioners for funding for the paving project.

“We are looking at all means and referral sources to ensure the community center gets the help it deserves,” Commission President Les Boggs said.
