Ironton leaders’ decision making is puzzling
Published 9:36am Tuesday, June 26, 2012I am very concerned with the direction the city is headed in. It appears financial problems will result in serious reduction in services in virtually all areas as more and more employees are laid off to balance the budget without increasing fees.
Neither the mayor nor the city council has been able to solve this problem or present any alternative solutions for the consideration of the citizenry.
Perhaps some of you have some ideas.
When replacement of Ironton High School became such a hot issue a few years ago, several town meetings were held which were instrumental in illuminating all sides of the various issues and resulted in the excellent situation we have today.
The mayor and city council could present their case and answer citizens’ questions about alternatives, giving the pros and cons of each.
It worked before, why not try again?

Ironton

Paul Woods; My memories of Ironton are from a City Manager type of government, which I think is the most efficient, due to the fact, the individual should have a degree in Public Administration and it would be helpful if a little experience was introduced into the equation. If this was the case, one of the administrative positions could be eliminated. What is the Mayor’s salary? could it be reduced? Do City Council members receive compensation for their services? If so, could their pay be reduced or eliminated? After all, they do have (I presume, other jobs). Their services could be donated out of a feeling of obligation and community service. Just some thoughts.

I know…………Let’s have election after election until we wear the populace out and squeak it through. That’s how to do it, right?
It’s worked before.
