Water main break keeps Ironton workers busy

Published 1:59pm Tuesday, July 31, 2012

Another water main break on South Fifth Street near Pine and Maple streets left south end residents with low water pressure for a few hours today. The repair to the line has been completed.

Mayor Rich Blankenship said this week’s break on South Fifth Street was approximately 10 feet from the South Fifth Street break last week. Blankenship said he had anticipated repairs would take several hours but city workers, he said, “jumped right in there and got it fixed.”

The mayor said there is no boil water advisory in effect at this time but he said, “Residents should be mindful before using water if it is discolored.”

Last week a South Fifth Street water main break and a break at Ohio University Southern that was caused by a construction accident left a large part of the city without water for several hours.

Well there wasn’t a break in the last 2 weeks around Park and down, my water has been brown and nasty and I called the Water Dept and got the funniest answer, I said “could you tell me why the water is so brown”, he said “I have no idea, they haven’t flushed any hydrants so I would have no clue on that” haha! Nothing like they would check it out, only in Ironton……
