PROCTORVILLE — A man and woman from Proctorville have been arrested following a Saturday raid at the Proctorville Flea Market.

Arrested were Jeffrey Jones, 49, of 155 Township Road 1280, Proctorville, and Lisa Jenkins, 48, of 9514 County Road 107, Proctorville. Both are charged with engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, a felony in the second degree, according to Lawrence County Sheriff Jeff Lawless.

Jones is a co-owner of the flea market and Jenkins works as a secretary there.

“For the last several months the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, Huntington Police, Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms and investigators from Walgreen’s, CVS and Rite-Aid pharmacies have been conducting an investigation into the sale of medications we believe were stolen from these pharmacies and sold here,” Lawless said.

At 3 p.m. those agencies executed a search warrant. Investigators believe there has been a group of individuals who have been shoplifting over-the-counter medications and exchanging them for cash which would be used to purchase illegal drugs, according to Lawless.

These medications were allegedly sold to Jones who is accused of selling them at the market.

Investigators spent Saturday afternoon and evening collecting evidence at the market.

“There were customers in the store and everyone was very cooperative,” Lawless said. “We got customers out as quickly as we could.”

Vendors at the market were not targets of the raid or the investigation.

Jones and Jenkins are expected to be arraigned in Lawrence County Municipal Court Monday.
