Obama hasn’t done much for nation

Published 10:17am Tuesday, August 7, 2012

President Barack Obama has lied about the jobs that he has created. He said that millions have been put to work.

If this is so, then just why didn’t his stimulus keep unemployment below 8 percent where it was when he took office?

There are millions more out of work than have been put to work since he took office. His foolish spending has caused the national debt to increase drastically.

Bush raised it $5 trillion in eight years. Obama has raised it more than $5 trillion in less than four years, with no end in sight.

Obama claims he is for the middle class, but the middle class to him is those who make less than $250,000 a year. I have never made anywhere near $70,000 a year in my entire life.

In going with the “Green Movement, ” which has been a total disaster, he has cost us nearly a billion dollars. The wind fans have killed millions of birds and produced very little electricity.

The reason he doesn’t know how to run a company, let alone a country, is because he has never done much. He was a “community organizer,” state senator with no record to be proud of, a U.S. Senator with very little experience and has offered many votes of “present.”

This just shows how little that we can expect from him in the future.

We all know that he is good at reading a written statement from a teleprompter. However, ask him a simple question and you get “uh, uh,” then a few words.

If you listen to Jim Crawford in his writings he’s the best thing that ever happened to America.

But, you see, Crawford is blind to the facts because he is a Democrat and, to him, Democrats never make mistakes of any kind.

That’s right. He just can’t bring himself to admit that Obama has created 3,354,000 jobs in LESS THAN 3 years…the most recent 3 years, by the way.

What you really have to ask yourself is this.

If we have a guy running for the gop who wants to return to the Bush-era policies that gave us…..

4,506,000 JOBS LOST in his second term…..

And we have a guy in office who completely turned around the ABSOLUTE, UNEQUIVOCAL WORST president in the recorded history of the US when it comes to jobs…

Obama Now Partly Running On Bill Clinton’s Record — ‘Our Plan’

On Tuesday, in Portland, Oregon, the president told supporters that the U.S. was not built from the top down, but rather from the bottom up. “It was built because we invested in great schools and great universities, and we put rules of the road in place to make sure that everybody was being treated fairly,” the president said. “Let me just point out that the approach that I’m talking about has also been tested. Just like their theories have been tested and didn’t work, my theories have been tested. The last time they were tried was by a guy named Bill Clinton. And we created 23 million new jobs, went from deficits to surplus, and we created a lot of millionaires to boot.”

Answer – No. He could do a lot better with a democratic congress for the next 4 years. He was too nice to the republicans during those first 2 years he was in office. Instead of holding out hopes for that bunch of jerks to put America first, he should have seen them for the bunch of con men they are and just steamrolled them. The new White House “fact sheet” on the economy declares that job growth since August 2003 is the “longest continuous months of job growth on record.”

That’s literally true – the Bureau of Labor Statistics data from the great jobs boom of the 1990s do show a couple of scattered months of job decline, although these are probably statistical blips. But by any reasonable standard, job growth in the Bush years has fallen way short of growth in the Clinton years.

Nope: If you look at the number of people working when Obama took office, it was:

    133,561,000

In Jun 2012, the number of people working was

    132,461,000

So, since Obama took office, there are 473,000 less people working.

Hey, I’m just using your own source!

  14. So what he’s saying is that Obama created 3,354,000 jobs in LESS THAN 3 years. OK!!

I took the number from the same column where you get the universally accepted numbers for Clinton and Reagan quoted all the time, even in presidential debates.

But, Noesis, if you want to quibble over it that’s ok.

It is MORE than fine with me if the 3,354,000 jobs were created from September 2009…9 months after inauguration and 6 month after the American Recovery Act was signed.

So we got the 3,354,000 jobs. Noesis doesn’t dispute that. We just got them in even less time if he’s right.

You see, he won’t give Obama credit for creating those jobs.

Further, he acts like we should have seen those results immediately…even before Obama had the chance to sign the Recovery Act into law.

He’s clearly putting his party first…not America.

Since Bush was no longer in office in September, per Wikipedia he created 1,108,000 jobs when he left the White House in January. You were using the budget period which ends in September, not when the President actually took office.

Now using the same table, Wikipedia says that when Bush left office, there were 133,561,000 people working.

The latest numbers for Obama per Wikipedia: 133,088,000 working. That means there are 473,000 less people working then when Obama took over.

Indie: Enough said. Let ‘em spin.

Why not, you started with the spin. Lets see what Politifact says about your analysis… Pelosi tried with the same lies you did:

    – These statistics stand in “stark contrast to the Bush Administration record of losing an average of nearly 750,000 jobs per month in its last three months.” The numbers are correct as Pelosi phrased them, but she is cherry-picking. Her selection of time periods for the comparison produces a picture that’s as flattering as possible to the Democrats. We think a listener hearing this would assume that President Barack Obama’s job creation record stood in “stark contrast” to Bush’s, when in fact the time periods Pelosi uses put Obama’s record in the best possible light — because it skips all of 2009 — and puts Bush’s in the worst possible light.

She conveniently left out all of 2009, when the nation lost 4.7 million jobs, or 395,000 per month. That’s a monthly rate nearly twice as large as the increases recorded in 2010.
    ———

    So, let’s recap:

    Bush lost 750,000 jobs a month for 3 months. = 2,250,000 jobs

Obama in 2009: 4,700,000 jobs lost

Obama since then: 3,353,000 jobs gained back.

Total loss by Obama: 1,347,000 jobs

And THAT is why our unemployment rate is still higher than when Bush left office.

Those most detrimentally affected are the lower middle class, the working poor, seniors, the destitute, and their numbers are increasing. We are finding it difficult to keep up. In fact, with all the talk about jobs and unemployment let’s just get real and look at some results there too.

I’ll put this in historical context by going back to the Kennedy years.

    President Years Jobs Added
    Kennedy/Johnson 1961–1965 +7,103,000
    Lyndon Johnson 1965–1969 +9,428,000

    Ronald Reagan 1981–1985 +6,552,000
    Ronald Reagan 1985–1989 +10,303,000
    George H. W. Bush 1989–1993 +3,032,000
    Bill Clinton 1993–1997 +12,060,000
    Bill Clinton 1997–2001 +8,106,000
    George W. Bush 2001–2005 +2,716,000
    George W. Bush 2005–2009 -4,506,000
    Barack Obama 2009–Jan’12 +3,354,000

WOW! Doesn’t that put the Bush years into real perspective?

Not only was Bush the first President to lose jobs in a 4-year term since Kennedy…he was the FIRST EVER since they started tracking it under FDR.

Not only was Bush the first President to lose jobs over a 4-year term, but he also lost 1.79 million net jobs over an 8-year reign.

Compare that to the 8 years prior to Bush when we added 20 million jobs under Clinton or even the Reagan years when we added almost 17 million and the Bush years stand in stark contrast.

Has Obama added 20 million jobs? No, he’s added over 3.5 million jobs if you add in results through end of July and the first 1.79 million jobs had to make up for the hole Bush dug in his 8 years.

Can Obama rebound to the kind of numbers that Reagan and Clinton posted after taking office in the midst of a recession? It’ll be tough. Remember, neither Reagan nor Clinton followed a president who LOST jobs and (obviously)the recessions they had to dig America out of were not as bad as the one Bush left us with.

Regardless, at the current pace we should be adding about 4 million jobs by the end of Obama’s first term. At least it’s a TURNAROUND of what Bush left us.

That point cannot be UNDER-APPRECIATED. We had no guarantee that America wouldn’t see year after year of continued job loss, if you’ll recall, when we were in the midst of the recession at the end of the Bush years and into the early months of the Obama first term.

Frankly, I think Obama will be poised to post much bigger job numbers in his second term. Unless everything goes south between now and election day, if Obama does win I think he will have coattails. I think he will campaign on that, pointing out that he won’t be able to get much done in a second term with a republican-led congress.

I think this appeal could work with those who will be voting for Obama in November.

If Obama gets his democratic congress and is then able to go on to post job gains of 8-10 million in his second term…given the magnitude of the economic catastrophe he inherited from Bush…the history will look at Obama and his total 12-14 million jobs added as a huge victory for both Obama and America.

Sadly, some here won’t be satisfied to just disagree whether that will happen or not…they will be actively rooting against Obama (and, by default, America) all the way to 2017 regardless.

    - Launched a $15 billion plan to boost lending to small businesses

    - Allocated special funding to the Labor Department to provide green job training to veterans

    - Allocated funding to states and the Department of Homeland Security to save thousands of police or firefighter jobs from being cut during the recession

    - Signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, restoring basic protections against pay discrimination for women and other workers

    - Announced the “Making Home Affordable” home refinancing plan

    - Signed the Helping Families Save Their Homes Act, expanding on the Making Home Affordable Program to help millions of Americans avoid preventable foreclosures, providing $2.2 billion to help combat homelessness, and helping to stabilize the housing market for everybody

    - Provided tax credits to first-time home buyers through the Worker, Homeownership, and Business Assistance Act of 2009 to revitalize the U.S. housing market

    - Provided attractive tax write-offs for those who buy hybrid automobiles

    - Purchased fuel efficient American-made fleet of vehicles for the federal government

    – Increased funding for student loans and pell grants for 2010 students

    - Invested heavily in education both as a way to provide jobs now and lay the foundation for long-term prosperity

    - Increased infrastructure spending (roads, bridges, power plants) after years of neglect

    - Provided the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) with more than $1.4 billion to improve services to America’s Veterans

    - Provided the Department of Veterans Affairs the largest spending increase in 30 years to improve medical facilities and national cemeteries, and to assist states in acquiring or constructing state nursing homes and extended care facilities:

    - Signed the Children’s Health Insurance Reauthorization Act on February 4, 2009, which provides quality health care to 11 million kids – 4 million who were previously uninsured

    – Issued a Presidential Memorandum to the Department of Energy to implement more aggressive efficiency standards for common household appliances, like dishwashers and refrigerators. Through this step, over the next three decades, we’ll save twice the amount of energy produced by all the coal-fired power plants in America in any given year

They were in all respects, members of the family and treated as such. The well being of the family was in their hands. This is difficult to comprehend in our modern day society. As an interesting side note, Jesus Christ did not condemn slavery, He was a man of his times, but a notch above His times, He taught justice and fair treatment for all members of society. I think we fail in these regards.

Indie, I’m still waiting for your response to the last lie you told…

“Obama had a bi-partisan team of economists working on his transition team and 8% was set out as a goal for unemployment but that was before the jobs hemorrhage in Bush’s final months effectively made 8% an unreachable goal.”
    ———–

Except that the goals were announced in Jan 2009. And the Bush job’s hemorrhage in his final months?: Nov = 6.8%, Dec = 7.3%.

So, lets look at when we really lost jobs. Not when Bush was in office but… months later:

    2009: 7.8 8.3 8.7 8.9 9.4 9.5 9.5 9.6 9.8 10.0 9.9 9.9
    2010 9.7 9.8 9.8 9.9 9.6 9.4 9.5 9.6 9.5 9.5 9.8 9.4
    2011 9.1 9.0 8.9 9.0 9.0 9.1 9.1 9.1 9.0 8.9 8.7 8.5

  37. Here are a few fun facts. Remember that our economy was losing HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of jobs EVERY MONTH when Bush left office and handed over the economy in shambles to our current president.

Since coming into office on January 21, 2009, President Barack Obama has:

    - Signed the Recovery Act (commonly known as the stimulus) into law on February 17, 2009. And as numbers provided by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis show, between March 2009, the first month stimulus money could affect the jobs numbers, and May 2012, 971,000 non-farm payroll jobs were created. Add to that another 64,000 jobs created in June and 163,000 jobs created in July, 2012.

    - Helped reverse a downward spiral of the stock market. On January 19, 2009, the last day of President Bush’s presidency, the Dow closed at 8,218.22. As of this moment, the Dow 13,185.89

    - Launched U.S. Auto industry rescue plan which went on to be a huge success

    - Protected 300,000 education jobs, such as teachers, principals, librarians, and counselors through the Recovery Act that would have otherwise been lost

    - Extended unemployment benefits for 2,000,000 unemployed Americans by 20 weeks. At the time the bill was signed 7,000 unemployed Americans were losing their unemployment benefits each day

    - Cracked down on companies that deny sick pay, vacation and health insurance to workers by abusing the employee classification of independent contractor. Such companies also avoid paying Social Security, Medicare and unemployment insurance taxes for those workers

    - Issued an executive order to create the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform

    - Signed the Fraud Enforcement and Recovery Act which gives the federal government more tools to investigate and prosecute fraud, from lending to the financial system, and creates a bipartisan Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission to investigate the financial practices that brought us to this point

    - Signed the Credit Card Accountability, Responsibility, and Disclosure (CARD) Act to protect Americans from unfair and deceptive credit card practices

And here’s two more Mitt Romney probably didn’t like:
    - Endorsed Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act of 2009 that would close offshore tax havens
    - Negotiated deal with Swiss banks to permit US government to gain access to records of tax evaders and criminals

I also served as President of Local 359 Brotherhood Of Railway, Airline And Steamship Clerks for twenty years with a membership of over 350 members. Let me ask you this have you heard of the Bradley affect??
It means that the amount of people who claim they are going to vote for an “African American” is much lower than what it really is, it has been proven any many elections for the past three decades. For example; In 2008 only 8% of white males claimed they voted for Obama, come on we all know that is not true at all. Essentially you put a closed minded white male on front, you might get a different answer than what he truly believes behind that closed booth.

Indie: This is the most intellectually dishonest piece I’ve ever read in the Tribune.
    ———————-

Really? He hasn’t spent billions on “green energy” that failed to produce jobs like he expected?

You state that: “Obama had a bi-partisan team of economists working on his transition team and 8% was set out as a goal for unemployment but that was before the jobs hemorrhage in Bush’s final months effectively made 8% an unreachable goal.”
    —–

And yet, that’s a lie: … Jan. 9, 2009, report called “The Job Impact of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan” from Christina Romer, chairwoman of the president’s Council of Economic Advisers, and Jared Bernstein, the vice president’s top economic adviser.

So, Obama had been in office a full year when that report came out.

And Obama HAS increased taxes for those making under $250,000 a year contrary to his claim that he wouldn’t raise taxes on anyone make <$250,000 by a single dime.

And if Obambi's doing such a great job Keta, why are so many democrats defecting? One in seven voters for Obama four years ago won't be supporting him in November elections…

    (Report comment)

  50. This is the most intellectually dishonest piece I’ve ever read in the Tribune.

First of all, Obama was hit by hundreds of thousands of lost jobs per month in the first few months of his administration…before any of his policies had time to be enacted and make any impact. This was a continuation of the Bush era and was worse than anyone thought it would be.

Obama had a bi-partisan team of economists working on his transition team and 8% was set out as a goal for unemployment but that was before the jobs hemorrhage in Bush’s final months effectively made 8% an unreachable goal. Either way, it has nothing to do with Obama or anyone else LYING.

Middle class, you say? Barack Obama said he wanted to keep tax rates the same for everyone making $250,000 or less. Obama didn’t say you aren’t in the middle-class unless you make $250,000!!

Obama included everyone up to $250,000 in the “middle class or under” category that would have no tax increase. He was, in effect, setting $250K as the income level where wealth begins and where he wanted to raise the marginal tax rate by 4.6%.

If you really think what you wrote on this specific point is true, Homer, then you just aren’t that bright. If you know what the truth is and wrote what you did anyway, you’re a bad person.

You want to criticize him because he’s never run a company? Really?? Why, do you want to see those impressive offshore-money hiding / American jobs outsourcing skills that Mitt Romney has demonstrated?

The fact is that Obama has gotten a lot done for America. The upcoming debates and post-convention campaign will reflect that. The election in November will reflect that. History will reflect that.
