PROCTORVILLE — The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office is warning area residents about a man who reportedly has been impersonating a county health inspector.

A resident in Proctorville contacted the sheriff’s office that the man came to her home Thursday morning saying he had an order to inspect her house.

“She allowed him in, but she started to question him,” Sheriff Jeff lawless said.

At that time he left the home without incident, Lawless said.

“In checking with the health department, she learned they have no home inspections,” he said.

When deputies met with the homeowner, they were told the woman was unharmed and nothing taken from the house. Deputies searched the area but could not find the man, who is described as a white male, 6 feet tall with brown hair and eyes, wearing a blue sports jacket, white shirt and tan pants. He is between 40 and 50 years old and driving a maroon Dodge with Ohio tags.

Lawless cautions homeowners to check credentials of anyone who wants to enter the house and contact the organization they claim to represent to verify who they are.

“We want people to be alert,” the sheriff said.

Anyone with information about this suspect is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at (740) 532-3525.
