FLATWOODS, Ky. — Patrick Lewis ran for 245 yards on 12 carries for three touchdowns and returned a punt 68 yards for a score as the Ironton Fighting Tigers rolled past the Russell Red Devils 47-21.

Ironton (2-0) amassed 560 total yards including 523 on the ground. Trevor White also ran 13 times for 17 yards, quarterback Tanner Dutey 87 yards on eight carries and Tanner Schweickart added 54 on eight attempts.

Schweickart scored on a 7-yard run to put Ironton up 6-0 before Russell (1-1) took a 7-6 lead on an 11-yard run by Bryant Cathey.

But White and a 26-yard scoring run and Lewis got free on a 66-yard gallop as Ironton went up 20-14 at the half.

 

Wheelersburg 28, Coal Grove 22

COAL GROVE — Eddie Miller ran for three touchdowns including two in the second half to snap a 14-14 halftime tie as the Wheelersburg Pirates held on to beat the Coal Grove Hornets 28-22 on Friday.

Miller scored on an 8-ayrd run early for a 7-0 lead, but Kyle Estep caught a 75-yard scoring pass from Alex Bare and it was 7-6.

Tyler Claxon’s 17-yard touchdown pass on fourth and goal gave the Pirates a 14-6 lead, but Tanner Murphy’s 4-yard scoring run and Bare’s conversion run tied the game with just 35 seconds left in the half.

Miller had scoring runs of 12 and 6 yards to make it 28-14 in the fourth quarter and the defense stopped the Hornets at the 4-yard line. Coal Grove got the ball back and Conor Markins caught a 42-yard scoring pass and Aaron Wilson caught the conversion pass. The Hornets’ onside kickoff was covered by the Pirates who ran out the clock.

 

Fairland 30, Meigs 12

ROCKSPRINGS — The Fairland Dragons racked up 379 total yards and built a 22-12 halftime lead as they went on to beat the Meigs Marauders 30-12 on Friday.

Kyle Sowards had 110 yards on six carries including an 88-yard scoring run as Fairland (2-0) piled up 240 yards on the ground. Quarterback Chance Short was 13 of 16 passing for 139 yards.

Nathan Campbell added 84 yards on 14 tries with a touchdown and Tyree Ceasar had 65 yards on eight carries with a score to lead a balanced Fairland offense.

Meigs (0-2) managed just 28 net yards rushing. Quarterback Kaileb Sheets was 10 of 23 passing for 106 yards including a 57-yard scoring strike to Jordan Hutton in the first quarter that got the Marauders within 8-6.

But Sheets had minus 30 yards rushing on seven carries as the Fairland defense harassed him the entire game.

 

Symmes Valley 67, Southeastern 32

WILLOW WOOD — The Symmes Valley Vikings amassed 530 yards on the ground as they crushed the Southeastern Panthers 67-32 on Friday.

Alec Herrell ran six times for 153 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Vikings (2-0). Tyler Rowe had 114 yards on six tries including a 99-yard touchdown run. Dustin Holbrook got 84 yards on four carries, Kyle Vallance three carries for 75 and D.J. Miller added 55 yards on five carries.

The game was tied 14-14 after the first quarter, but the Vikings erupted to outscore the Panthers 33-0 in the second quarter to make it 47-14.

 

Green 38, Millersport 26

FRANKLIN FURNACE — The Green Bobcats built a big lead early, then withstood a comeback by Millersport and beat the Lakers 38-26 on Friday.

The Bobcats (2-0) racked up 275 yards on the ground and quarterback Clay Applegate was 3 of 5 passing for 59 yards to give Green 334 total yards.

Kyle Frazier ran eight times for 103 yards and scored three touchdowns, Rob Applegate had 13 carries for 76 yards and two scores, and Levi Mollett added 70 yards on seven tries.

Green led 26-7 at the half before the Lakers cut the deficit to 26-19 in the fourth quarter. But Frazier had TD runs of 26 and 29 yards to put the game away.

 

Grove City Christian 27, South Point 0

SOUTH POINT — Jordan Haywood ran 33 times for 185 yards and two scores while Tristan Taylor kicked fields goals of 38, 26 and 31 yards to give the Grove City Christian Eagles a 27-0 win over the South Point Pointers on Friday.

The Eagles — who led just 15-0 at the half — had 394 total yards with 321 coming on the ground.

South Point (0-2) had 136 total yards with 101 on the ground. Quarterback Gage Townsend ran 16 times for 83 yards.

 

Lucasville Valley 40, Rock Hill 14

PEDRO — Nate Arnett ran 10 times for 142 yards and scored two touchdowns as the Lucasville Valley Indians beat the Rock Hill Redmen 40-14 on Friday.

The Indians (2-0) built a 28-0 halftime lead and then went on to beat the Redmen (0-2).
