Bond set in bus driver assault case
Published 11:44am Wednesday, September 5, 2012CHESAPEAKE — Bond was set for a Proctorville woman who allegedly attacked a school bus driver last week.
Jamie L. Qualls, of 30, of 3840 County Road 12, was arraigned by Judge Donald R. Capper Tuesday in Lawrence County Municipal Court.
Qualls is charged with fourth-degree disrupting a public service, fifth-degree felonious assault, misdemeanor assault and disorderly conduct.
Capper set bond at $20,000 cash or surety and scheduled a preliminary hearing at 10 a.m. Friday. Capper appointed attorney Luke Styer to the case.
The fourth-degree felony charge could carry a sentence of up to 18 months in jail and a $5,000 fine; the fifth-degree charge could carry up to one year in jail and a $2,500 fine; and the misdemeanor assault charge could carry up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.
Authorities said early Friday morning, Qualls allegedly got on a Fairland school bus that had stopped to pick up her children. Qualls allegedly began to quarrel with and swear at the bus driver, who ordered Qualls to get off the bus.
The driver told authorities when he tried to radio for help, Qualls allegedly grabbed his microphone out of his hand and struck him again before allegedly assaulting a 10-year old boy who was also riding the bus.

I know a couple of bus drivers, that, had she assaulted one of them on his bus, the fire dept. would still be trying to remove her face from the bus’s dashboard.

The whole story is not being told here. Maybe something was happening to her kids on that bus. Maybe the driver was involved – who knows. Only one side being told.

Even if there was a problem on the bus she still has no right to hit the driver or the 10 year old. Go to the school and complain, don’t get physical.

Lawyer will whine how that if she’s jailed her kids will suffer etc. etc. and she’ll get a good talking to. lol

I think in this case, she’d do her children more harm out of jail. If she’d hit a strangers kid for no reason, what’s to say she wouldn’t beat her own kids for no reason?
