Oaks’ start fast to beat Redmen

PEDRO — The first half proved to be the enemy of the Rock Hill Redmen again.

The Redmen fell behind 21-0 to the Oak Hill Oaks and lost 35-7 on Friday night.

Oak Hill (3-0) racked up 475 total yards for the game including 288 in the first half. Rock Hill (0-3) finished with 227 total yards for the game.

The Oaks’ ground game racked up 351 yards as the tandem of Wes Harden and Devon Davis combined for 265 yards. Harden ran18 times for 137 yards while Davis had 128 yards on 11 carries and two touchdowns.

The strong running game opened up the passing game and quarterback Drew Haislop hit 5 of 7 passes for 124 yards including touchdown strikes of 23 and 78 yards to Luke Hammond.

Hammond finished with four catches for 118 yards.

Rock Hill senior fullback and linebacker Shane Harper did return after missing the first two games and the entire preseason with a knee injury. He ran 15 times for 48 yards.

The Redmen finished with 210 yards on the ground. Jacob Malone led the ground game with 70 yards on 15 attempts, quarterback Jonah Cox had 48 yards on 14 tries and Chance Blankenship had 42 yards on two carries and scored Rock Hill’s touchdown on a 50-yard romp with 1:05 to play.

Hammond caught a 23-yards strike from Haislop in the first quarter to make it 7-0.

Davis ran 38 yards and Hammond hooked up with Haislop on the 78-yard pass with 1:30 on the clock to boost the first half lead to 21-0.

Haislop had a 2-yard run for a score in the third quarter to make it 28-0.

Neither team scored until Blankenship went half the length of the field to make it 28-7. Chris Stevens kicked the point after.

Davis matched Blankenship with a 50-yard run just nine seconds later.
