WEST PORTSMOUTH — Like a knockout punch sends a man to the mat, BOOM! It was over just like that.

Robert Ellis Orrall sang the verse to this country song but the Rock Hill Redmen heard it when a quick scoring burst by Portsmouth West gave the Senators a 35-7 win Friday night.

West (1-3) scored on the first play of the game when Adam Bricker ran 66 yards for a 7-0 lead.

The game remained that way until West scored 21 points in less than four minutes to end the first half.

Steven Irwin threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to Levi Morgan with 3:42 left, then hit Zack Frye with a 41-yard scoring strike with 1:05 on the clock and it was 21-0.

Frye completed the rapid-fire scoring when he returned an interception 37 yards for a touchdown with just nine seconds left.

Rock Hill (0-4) came out the second half and got on the scoreboard when Jonah Cox hit Chris Stevens with a 5-yard touchdown pass. Jake Malone kicked the point after and it was 28-7.

West got its final touchdown on a 4-yard run by Alec Meeker with 10:19 to play.

Rock Hill managed 46 net yards of offense. Cox was 4 of 9 passing for 30 yards with an interception, but he lost 34 yards due to quarterback sacks.

Malone ran 16 times for 36 yards.

Bricker had 18 carries for 132 yards as West had 217 yards on the ground.
