Panthers win OVC golf title

FRIENDSHIP — All that’s left now is one for the thumb.

The Chesapeake Panthers racked up their fourth straight Ohio Valley Conference golf championship with a 28-stroke win Friday at Shawnee Golf Course.

“We’ve had a pretty good run,” said Panthers’ coach Terry Kimball. “This is a good group of kids and they’ve worked really hard.”

Chesapeake finished with a 325 team total followed by Coal Grove with 353, Fairland 365, River Valley 374, South Point 437 and Rock Hill 524.

The Panthers placed five golfers on the all-conference team as Nick Duffield (76), Drew Oxley (82), Eric Sias (85) and Shane Stevens (87) were among the top eight golfers.

Coal Grove’s Brent Morgan shot a 73 to win medalist honors by three shots. He was joined on the All-OVC team by teammate Brandon Adkins with an 84.

Fairland’s Hunter Schenewark rounded out the all-league team with an 87.

River Valley 374: Jacob Gilmore 94, Logan Sheets 93, Dan Goodrich 90, Cliff Chapman 132, Zach Morris 110, Jacob Howell 97.

South Point 437: Caleb Jones 109, Kyle Goodson 106, Austin Wellman 114, Madison Riley 108, Barbara Collins 124, Brandon Loden 122.
