Pointers beat Pirates, 2-1

SOUTH POINT — The streak is over.

The South Point Pointers got their first-ever win over the Wheelersburg Pirates with a 2-1 victory on Thursday.

Johannes Knapek scored an unassisted goal at the 17:00 mark of the first half to put the Pointers up 1-0 at the half.

Jesse Lien then scored off an assist from Mario Palladino with 43:00 on the second half clock to give the Pointers a 2-0 lead.

Wheelersburg finally scored with seven minutes to play on an unassisted goal by Kurt Kaskey.

Goalkeeper Brady Rickard had six saves for South Point. Alex Dalton had 11 saves for the Pirates.

The Pointers — who tied Wheelersburg in 2008 — are now 8-2-1 on the season. They host St. Joseph at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Wheelersburg fell to 4-6-2.
