COAL GROVE — Just when the Coal Grove Lady Hornets thought it couldn’t get any harder, it did.

But as hard as it got, the Lady Hornets battled through it as they beat the Rock Hill Redwomen and South Point Lady Pointers in Ohio Valley Conference volleyball games as well as a non-league match against the Ashland Kittens.

“I always tell the girls to play hard, but by the time the third game came this week, you could see the girls were worn out, It was a grueling week,” said Lady Hornets’ coach Trish Damron.

“I told them to they had to play harder. We played three games and every game ended in five matches. So after 15 matches, we ended up winning all three.”

Ashley Adkins piled up 46 points and Cheyenne Bellomy 43 more during the three-game span. Bailey Harrison added 43 kills and Cami Hillier had an impressive 120 setting assists.

The schedule doesn’t get any easier. The Lady Hornets face River Valley on Tuesday and will have senior night on Thursday when they host Fairland.

Coal Grove needs to win both games in order to secure a second straight OVC championship. The Lady Hornets have one league loss and River Valley two.
