Pointers top Flyers

SOUTH POINT — After the lead changed hands, so did the Lawrence County Cup.
The reigning Cup champion St. Joseph Flyers took a 1-0 lead, but the South Point Pointers rallied to take a 3-1 soccer win Tuesday and claimed their first-ever Lawrence County Cup title.
South Point (9-2-1) does not have a loss against the other two county teams, St. Joseph and Chesapeake.
Joseph Payton scored at the 6:00 mark of the first half to put the Flyers up, but Jesse Lien tied the game off an assist from Mario Palladino at the 17:00 mark to tie the game at the half.
Lien had an unassisted goal at the 48:00 of the second half and Alex Whitt added a goal as Trey Kerns got the assist seven minutes later.
Justin Mahlmeister had eight saves for the Flyers and Brady Rickard had five for the Pointers.
South Point visits Russell at 8 p.m. on Thursday.
