Voter laws should all be equal

Published 11:00am Wednesday, October 3, 2012

It won’t impact the 2012 presidential race, but now is the time to begin looking at implementing one set of federal guidelines for election laws that would allow reasonable voter access and create a uniform set of rules.

Ongoing battles across the country were illustrated Tuesday after a Pennsylvania court put a hold on the state’s strict ID laws that many felt were designed to disenfranchise voters and help Republicans win key battleground state in the presidential election.

This comes on the heels of a “federal court panel strkining down Texas’ law, while a state court blocked Wisconsin’s voter ID law from taking effect for now. A federal court is reviewing South Carolina’s law,” according to Associated Press reports.

Allowing for such a wide variation in voter ID and other election laws from state to state only makes the process more complicated and potentially robs citizens of their voice at the polls.

After the election, regardless of which political party is in power, the government should take a hard look at this by creating a panel of non-partisan experts and bi-partisan lawmakers who can put politics aside come up with a proposal that has one goal: Strengthen the democratic system our nation was built on.

This work may not change the 2012 presidential election but could have a drastic impact elections for many years to come.

Hey Keta, remember Obambi claiming that a non-partisan study proved that Romney’s tax plan was going to cost $5 trillion and force tax cuts on the middle class?

Well, it looks like it’s Obambi is the one who has problems telling the truth:

You know how he was citing an economist saying that Romney’s tax plan would cost $5 trillion and that Romney would tax the middle class? The math just doesn’t add up?:

Princeton professor Harvey Rosen tells THE WEEKLY STANDARD in an email that the Obama campaign is misrepresenting his paper on Romney’s tax plan:

I can’t tell exactly how the Obama campaign reached that characterization of my work. It might be that they assume that Governor Romney wants to keep the taxes from the Affordable Care Act in place, despite the fact that the Governor has called for its complete repeal. The main conclusion of my study is that under plausible assumptions, a proposal along the lines suggested by Governor Romney can both be revenue neutral and keep the net tax burden on taxpayers with incomes above $200,000 about the same. That is, an increase in the tax burden on lower and middle income individuals is not required in order to make the overall plan revenue neutral.

    The math does add up.

How much do you want to bet that Obambi, Biden and liberals continue with this lie?

Geronimo, why is it that whenever we say something you think it’s from Rush or Fox news when instead it’s usually from someplace like Washington Post, the Chicago Tribune, CNN or other places?

Is reality so hard to cope with?

President Obama’s reelection campaign, rattled by his Wednesday night debate performance, could be in for even worse news. According to knowledgeable sources, a national magazine and a national web site are preparing a blockbuster donor scandal story.

Sources told Secrets that the Obama campaign has been trying to block the story. But a key source said it plans to publish the story Friday or, more likely, Monday.

According to the sources, a taxpayer watchdog group conducted a nine-month investigation into presidential and congressional fundraising and has uncovered thousands of cases of credit card solicitations and donations to Obama and Capitol Hill, allegedly from unsecure accounts, and many from overseas. That might be a violation of federal election laws.

    Keta: what a liar.

“But I also want to close those loopholes that are giving incentives for companies that are shipping jobs overseas. Right now, you can actually take a deduction for moving a plant overseas. I think most Americans would say that doesn’t make sense. And all that raises revenue.”

Can you provide the tax code number/statement that gives specific tax breaks to those that are just moving jobs overseas? What? There isn’t any?

The “loophole”… it’s called “business expense”. You get to deduct moving costs. It doesn’t matter if you move to Florida or Timbuktu. Moving expenses are tax deductible.

So no Keta, there is no “special tax loophole” just for moving jobs overseas. That’s just a liberal myth.

And “all that revenue” that would be raised for removing the “moving tax”… $16.8 million a year…. TOTAL.

    Big whoop.

Keta: Can he convince the voters he needs to basically just disregard everything he’s said for a year and a half?

No the question is, can the voters just disregard the 44 straight months of unemployment above 8%?

It’s possible just to enjoy the general craziness here, living in such interesting times. Personally, I think Mitt shook the etch-a sketch a little too hard. Can he convince the voters he needs to basically just disregard everything he’s said for a year and a half? His campaign has already admitted today that his health care plan with pre-existing conditions covered doesn’t exist, and that his claim that half the energy companies the president chose to invest in went bankrupt is false. Like with Paul Ryan, once the dust settles, the buzz that surrounds him like a bad smell is, what a liar. Watch what happens next.

She’s been telling us how Obambi is going to win in a landslide, how he’s such a great debater, how brilliant he is, how he’s done such a great job putting people back to work… we all know it’s a lie but even she can’t fail to see how bad he got beat in last night’s debate.

Where did Keta and Indie go? I thought they would be in here doing damage control from last night’s debate. It’s pretty bad when even liberals say that Obambi got trounced.

I don’t expect democrats to flock to Romney but real independents will be.

I can’t wait for the Ryan smack down of Biden….

    Wide variation. Like what?
As long as voter rights are upheld, leave it to the states.
I for one would not want my vote cancelled out by illegal voting.
What does it take for military to vote? I voted years ago as a student in Athens, Ohio at the court house in Athens as a Lawrence county resident. No problem whatsoever.
