Investigation continues into the cause of a house fire that broke out Tuesday morning in the north end of Ironton.

The call came into the Ironton Fire Department at 7:46 a.m. about the fire at 915 N. Fifth St.

The house is owned by Lea Clarke, but no one was at home at the time of the fire, according to Ironton Fire Chief Tom Runyon.

City firefighters were at the scene until 9:21 a.m. with Runyon and the state fire marshal staying until 2 p.m.

“There was smoke damage throughout but no major structural damage,” Runyon said. No neighboring structures were affected.

At this time Runyon declined to say where the fire broke out. Four pets died in the fire.
