The Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers had to take the good with the bad. In the end, the good was better.

Ironton played inconsistent but managed to survive as the Lady Tigers edged the Oak Hill Lady Oaks in the Division III sectional volleyball tournament Tuesday, 26-24, 18-25, 25-13, 16-25 and 15-13 in the tiebreaker.

“We looked great at times and then at times we looked like we had just played our first match of the season,” said Ironton coach Beth Campbell.

“Oak Hill plays a tough schedule with Wheelersburg and South Webster powerhouses of the sport. One thing for sure, our girls never quit.”

Saige Fields led all scorers with 15 points including 4 in the tiebreaker. Macy Wise and Maggie Thomas had 10 points each, Lexie Washington 9, Andi Kratzenberg 6 and Jordan Hannan 3.

“We need to capitalize more on serving. We missed too many opportunities with our serve tonight,” said Campbell.

“But we’ve done a better job utilizing our hitters more and working for them as they work to defend the net.”

Washington also had 8 kills and 9 blocks, Wise 4 blocks and 4 kills and Kratzenberg 6 kills. Laken White had 13 digs with 5 in the final game.

“Laken wasn’t letting a ball hit the floor the last game. She left the game with no regrets. As I told them in the locker room, it was all or nothing,” said Campbell.

Macy Melvin led Oak Hill with 13 points. Miranda Melvin scored 11 and Adrianna Bryant 10.

Ironton plays at 4 p.m. Saturday in the sectional finals at Nelsonville-York.
