Voting Republican will only make things far worse
Published 9:41am Thursday, October 18, 2012I want to thank Michael Caldwell for his article concerning the number of people in Lawrence County who depend on the federal government for their necessities of life.
There is need for food, housing, medical care and clothing. I visit Ironton as much as possible and love coming home. I keep in touch with what is happening in Ironton by reading The Tribune and I always read the opinion page.
I am surprised by the number of complaints from readers who do not accept the Democratic message that takes care of more than 25 percent of the population in Lawrence County.
Many will say, “I am tired of my money going to people who do not work or even try to get a job.” They have a very good point and should be listened to but I will say that the other party will give you assistance if you are a millionaire or billionaire.
And then that 25 percent will increase even more.
Lawrence County is known to its own and is full of very proud people.
My thanks to you again, Mike. I will continue to read The Tribune and I always vote as a Democrat,
Becky Siple Moffitt

Indie: The fact is that Mitt Romney will never be President of the United States. Good thing too because he’s a corporate snake who’ll stab you conservatives in the back on the FIRST time he’s presented with an issue where it’d be better for his own political interests to sell you out.
——————-
You mean like Extending the tax cuts for the rich? Bailing out Wall-Street? Deporting all those illegal aliens? The drone strikes? Not closing GITMO? Not going after government run health care? The war on whistle blowers (can you imagine the liberal outrage if Bush did that)? How about violating the War Powers Resolution in Libya? Continuing the CIA spying on phone calls made in the U.S.?
The funny thing is, liberals are quiet on quite a few of the above. I wonder how many they will rediscover being a problem once President Romney takes over the reigns?
I hear the secret service has been busy lately with all the death threats against Romney… and then these same type of people (democrats) are threatening to riot in the street if Romney wins.

My condolences, Mick. I’m for reducing the number of abortions as much as possible. We will only do that through proactive measures including education, support and alternatives to abortion for at-risk mothers.
It’s not going to be outlawed and women aren’t going to be put in prison. I think even you guys see that.
The one thing we can bet on, I believe, is the potential within each person to be moral. That’s the answer.
(Report comment)
indieVoter; On second thought, my previous comment was rather rash. I think any woman, or man by their support or instigation in regard to an abortion, are worthy of the support and forgiveness of the community in general. the death of a child is difficult to comprehend unless you have experienced it yourself. I have experienced this twice in my lifetime. The first time was a son born with a congenital heart condition and only one kidney and it did not function properly. He lived for sixteen months and was a blessing to us. The second time was when my wife had a miscarriage at three months and we had to fish the fetus out of the commode in order to present the remains to the doctor so that he could determine what procedures were required for my wife’s benefit. There is no way I could be Pro-Choice. ABORTION IS MURDER, no if and’s or buts. Incest, Rape and to Save The Life Of The Mother? Hard decisions? Yes, but correct and moral decisions must be made. There is a right and a wrong. Are we men and women enough to accept this? Are we strong enough to give up our lives for our children? talk is cheap, actions take courage.
(Report comment)
Mick, I find most of your comments either:
- cheap praise of the mediocre
- word salads you think sound meaningful
- proactively aggressive and insulting at times
- condescending when it’s on a matter of strong disagreement
I also find your behavior to be irrational at times since you took time to enter a comment saying that my comment wasn’t worthy of comment.
I also think it’s very generous of you to support your pro-choice friend on such a technicality in the funding. What you’re really saying is that you can get along with a guy who’s in favor of abortion (like Noesis) as long as a couple of conditions are met.
Sorry Mick. I just find your appeal to be a little shallow and repetitive of some kind of chant or mantra. Just saying the same words a thousand times doesn’t make it so.
The fact is that Mitt Romney will never be President of the United States. Good thing too because he’s a corporate snake who’ll stab you conservatives in the back on the FIRST time he’s presented with an issue where it’d be better for his own political interests to sell you out.

indieVoter; I find your comment of October 23, 2012 at 9:56 PM rather childish and not worthy of comment.
(Report comment)
indie; As an after thought; Noesis may be Pro-Choice personally but he is not in favor of tax supported abortion on demand. This is the issue. I think this is obvious by his remarks. He may correct me if I am misinterpreting his comments.
(Report comment)
Mick, I find your unwillingness to be clear on how we should punish women who’d violate the personhood bill by having an illegal abortion. Come on. Tell us.
I think you might have reservations about saying the truth. I think you do want to see women put into prison if not given the death penalty.
(Report comment)
indie; As a PS: President Barack Obama and the Democratic Party stand for the KILLING OF THE UNBORN (abortion), Same Sex Marriage (deviant behavior or sodomy), Disregard Of Freedom Of Conscience In regard To Religious Beliefs as demonstrated in ObamaCare. these FACTS cannot be ignored regardless of empty rhetoric.

Punishment for killing your unborn baby, abortion?
Mother-misdemeanor,probation
Abortionist–felony(and throw away the key)

And indie, why in the world would I even want to watch a video of Obami, especially recommended by you. I’ve watched more of Obambi the last three debates than I have in the last five years!
(Report comment)
A misdemeanor for asking someone to murder your child? That’s kinda soft isn’t it Mike??
As for the “abortionists”, you’d only run the system underground like the illegal drug trade. Good luck locking them up if it’s all underground and you don’t even know when or where it’s happening.
Do you wanna raise taxes to pay for more police investigations into matters like this Mike?

Indie: Barack Obama is against abortion…

“As we mark the 39th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, we must remember that this Supreme Court decision not only protects a woman’s health and reproductive freedom, but also affirms a broader principle: that government should not intrude on private family matters. I remain committed to protecting a woman’s right to choose and this fundamental constitutional right…”

Yeah Mick it sounds like Indie is trying to blow smoke up you know where…

indiVoter; I find your comment “Barack Obama is against abortion” the height of ignorance. You are demeaning your creditability. Please check out his past voting record and actions since becoming president. Cut the “bull” indie and present the facts, otherwise your comments are meaningless.

Keta shows up to take her lumps you say? I disagree. She shows up but I think she gives every bit as much as she takes.

LOL, she parrots things taken directly from Obama e-mails. Romnesia being the latest example.
(Report comment)
But you’re pro-choice Noesis? Remember, you said that and your argument was “just look at the kind of people who live in inner cities…” as your rationale for why you support abortion. When you talk abortion, it’s all about demagoguery. You don’t even care about that issue personally by your own admission.
Still waiting on that answer on how you guys want to punish women who’d violate a “personhood bill” by having an abortion…
(Report comment)
That’s correct. I support abortion but only because I believe it’s the lesser choice of two evils. Having kids to parents don’t want them is just a recipe to messed up kids who are going to end up in gangs and prison.
My solution. Personal responsibility. You don’t want kids, use birth control. Don’t expect the government to pay for your sex life or for raising a kid if you get pregnant. You want help raising, ask your parents. Maybe you’ll think twice next time before having unprotected sex.
(Report comment)
Barack Obama is against abortion and he signed an Executive Order to ensure that it wouldn’t be funded with taxpayer dollars via Obamacare.
——————-
Nope what he did was set up a separate fund mandating people pay for it – thereby getting around the “not funded with taxpayer dollars”… but, abortion funding is STILL being mandated by the federal government.
That like the Obamaphones. The federal government mandates the phone companies charge us extra and buy phones for the poor but, you can’t call it a government tax!
(Report comment)
Barack Obama is against abortion and he signed an Executive Order to ensure that it wouldn’t be funded with taxpayer dollars via Obamacare. In that first forum Obama had with McCain back in 2008, at Rick Warren’s church, Obama expressed his feelings on the matter.
What is it you’d have Mitt Romney do for America, Mick? If he didn’t do a 180 degree reversal on all you conservatives right after being inaugurated then he’d get behind the personhood bill and fight hard for it. Has he campaigned on that issue, by the way?
Has Mitt Romney made a notable public comment (in the last month…that’s how long his convictions last) saying that he’d push for the personhood bill? I don’t think he has and I don’t think he will.
But let’s say Mitt surprised all of us and got behind that bill which, if I’m reading it right, is the republican strategy now for circumventing the Supreme Court’s decision on Roe v. Wade. Let’s even say that old Mitt uses the bully pulpit of the presidency and sees the personhood bill passed.
What exactly is it what you’d have Mitt do to these women who would go out and get the infamous, back-alley abortions that were common in the days before Roe v. Wade.
Let’s cut to the chase. Would you throw these women in prison or would you opt for the death sentence? If you are TRULY as entrenched in your belief about abortion then you should have absolutely no problem with women getting the exact same punishment that we give murderers.
So enough of the witty phrasing. At least you’ve moved on and no longer feel the need to capitalize each word in “The Murder Of The Unborn” similar to the way you dropped “sodomy” as the official term for same sex marriage.
We’re overflowing with wit here. Remember the line Reagan famously borrowed from a famous fast-food chain..WHERE’S THE BEEF? That’s an appropriate question for women who, if you had your way, would be facing…
Prison???
Death Penalty???
Cut the bull. Go ahead and tell any and all women on here exactly what it is that people like you want to do to them if they violate your religious beliefs.
And don’t say “none of the above” because we all know you can’t have some act deemed “murder” but punished like something else. Just level with us Mick.
(Report comment)
President Barack Obama will be remembered for his support of the killing of the unborn, for his support for same sex marriage and his support for the disregard of freedom of conscience when it comes to religious beliefs. This will forever be a stain on the moral fortitude of our country and is not representative of the principles this country was founded on.
(Report comment)
Keta shows up to take her lumps you say? I disagree. She shows up but I think she gives every bit as much as she takes. She and I differ on some issues but I respect her for that. You should respect her for more than just showing up.
As for me, I’ve posted a comment or two over the last couple of weeks so I’ve been around. As Mick noted in one of my more recent comments, I don’t think there’s much new said here. That means there’s not much to respond to either.
With all due respect (more than you usually give others), your idea of a debate is two kids in the back seat arguing “nuh huh” and “uh huh” at the top of their lungs incessantly. I disagree.
I’m more confident than ever that Barack Obama will indeed win on November the 6th but, as politically divided as our nation is these days, it’s still going to be a tough fight.
Early voting has started in Ohio. Don’t let Mitt be right in calling you a victim. Take responsibility for voting Obama…the sooner, the better.

Especially knowing his teleprompter is in front of him but out of sight.

I’m not going to speculate on why you would watch this video but, based upon your response, I suspect that you actually did.
It’s a powerful ad. It’s iconic. Take a look for yourselves because it’s a preview of how the history books will remember Obama at this halfway point in his administration.
It’s halftime in America folks.

Poor Indie, you remind me of the Nationwide Insurance guy doing the “vanishing deductibles” commercial as he slowly fades away with time.
You started out predicting Obambi was going to win in a landslide, then the first debate happened and reality set in. You were reduced to making fantasy conspiracy theories where Obambi was just playing with Romney and the last debate he was going to be destroyed. Well, once again your prediction was wrong (notice a trend here?). A least Keta has class by taking her lumps and shows up.

Legislators don’t get to impose their religious beliefs on people who don’t share them. If they could, and Romney were elected, you’d be wearing magic mormon underwear, and you’d think the garden of Eden was in Missouri, and you’d have new scriptures to read that are less than 200 years old. mikehaney presents a great argument to leave Roe v. Wade alone: although most women who seek abortions are young, single and poor, old mike chooses to see them as psychopathic killers, not desperate girls with no resources. Romney and Ryan would shred the resources they do have, by the way. Old men can’t be allowed to decide this.

Evil—let’s put it in perspective.
———————————
After reviewing the biographies of 500+ killers, psychiatrists have produced 22 levels of evil. Here is a sampling from 1 to 22:
1) Those who have killed in self defense and who do not show psychopathic tendencies.
5) Traumatized, desperate persons who have killed abusing relatives and others (for example to support a drug habit) but who lack significant psychopathic traits and are genuinely remorseful.
11) Psychopathic killers of people who are in the way.
18) Torture-murderers with murder the primary motive.
22) Psychopathic torture murderers with torture their primary motive.
———————————-
Mothers who choose abortion, disregarding .05 percent to save life of the mother,rape,incest.—-number 11?
Abortionist who kills for profit, with full knowledge of what they are doing.———-number 18, or worse considering the dollar motive.
The voter who votes democrat, even though a supposed christian but refuses to vote against the liberal party(many in My church included).———-My guess would be closer to number 22 than number 1.
The union person, who votes democrat, wearing blinders to all other issues.———————–there again, closer to 22 than number 1.
Lastly, a person votes against the stronger pro-life party(platform, plus strong pro-life running mate, plus God wasn’t booed) because the repubs supposedly have more millionaires and billionaires.
A vote for Obama/Socialist is a vote for “All” that he stands for and all that he has done in the last four years. Sliding our country in a socialist direction we’ve never travelled before.
Now, we must define socialism, which is what we’ll have if Obama is re-elected.
Feel free to look up socialism.
(Report comment)
Half the country are like you and Mick; they believe they’re casting a vote for the sanctity of life, although most of their politicians “believe” whatever is politically expedient, like Multiple Choice Mitt. What you’re actually voting for is total freedom for the corporate and financial elite, who’ll be able to continue to benefit from a system rigged to insure that they thrive. For the few who actually create jobs, there’ll be plenty of low-wage workers, too, once they’ve busted what’s left of the unions. You’ve been snookered into believing supporting them is striking a blow for your “pro-life” position. Shredding the safety net, slashing education funding, canceling affordable health care, fighting for private ownership of assault weapons, etc. – none of that is particularly pro-life.
(Report comment)
Well, Keta, clearly you are a genius and I am a mere pawn in a system I don’t understand (since as a woman I can only think with my uterus), but I would like to say that as a 30 year old female, I’ve had friends have abortions, and I’ve also had a close friend with a chronic illness give up a baby for adoption at birth because she couldn’t care for it. The former have learned to regret those abortions every day of their lives and the latter woman lives in peace.
I’m not a single issue voter, and I regularly vote for a handful of (mostly local) Democrats, but yes, abortion is an important issue to me. If you believed it were murder, you would feel the same way. And if you’ve ever been pregnant, I suspect part of you does understand it is murder. But please, don’t act out on your personal cognitive dissonance because others take this issue seriously with our votes. And I’m glad Romney changed his mind. I love it when people change their mind on this issue because it shows character.

If you say that the only people HALF OF THE COUNTRY cares about are millionaires and billionaires, you are officially delusional.

Mike Caldwell–Twenty four percent of the population received Social Security. That should send a message to politicians and local government officials that raising taxes or fees for services must be done very carefully because about one in four citizens have little ability to impact their income.
Much debate has been made over “Obamacare” and whether or not this pushes our country toward socialism. There are certainly flaws with the legislation because it is so far reaching, but the primary argument that the government should stay out of the health care business is out of touch with reality.
As it stands, 33,568 people — 54 percent of Lawrence Countians — receive some form of government health care. This doesn’t even include veterans, public retirees, or people who work for non-profit organizations that receive government funding.

Here we go again, paying into social security and veterans benefits is not welfare. It was paid for and earned.
This 53 percenter is voting for our next president; Mitt Romney.

——————————
The study factored in Medicaid, the federal health care aid program for low-income families. But it also covered 82 other federal programs that Sessions classified as “welfare” — from food stamps to public housing to various tax credits for low-income families.
The CRS study found the federal portion of all that spending rose from $563 billion in fiscal 2008 to $746 billion in fiscal 2011 — representing a 32 percent increase. Republicans on the budget committee calculated that, with total state spending on federal programs factored in, the total amount rose from nearly $800 billion in 2008 to over $1 trillion last year — a 29 percent increase.
According to Sessions’ office, the federal share is now roughly one-fifth of the budget.
