ASHLAND, Ky. — King’s Daughters Medical Center is sponsoring the Nov. 17 Valor Run to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project and its mission to honor and empower wounded veterans.

Wounded Warrior Project takes a holistic approach when serving warriors and their families to nurture the mind and body, and encourage economic empowerment and engagement.

Through a high-touch and interactive approach, WWP hopes to foster the most successful, well-adjusted generation of wounded service members in our nation’s history.

“The Valor Run stands to raise not only funds for a great project, but also awareness in our community for the service men and women who fought so hard for our freedom,” said King’s Daughters President/CEO Fred Jackson.

The King’s Daughters community has made this event a priority, with more than 75 team members beginning the Couch to 5K race training program, according to Sabrina Esenbock, King’s Daughters Team Wellness manager. Physicians, nurse practitioners and team members from all areas have committed to compete in the Valor Run.

The Sports Medicine and Outpatient Physical Therapy departments of King’s Daughters will help all participants perform warm-up stretches before the gun goes off at 8 a.m., and will offer free cool-down massages following the race, according to King’s Daughters physical therapist assistant Ryan Sweeney.

The race takes place Saturday, Nov. 17 at King’s Daughters Outpatient Services Center, 480 23rd St. in Ashland.

Racers will cross the finish line back at the center after coursing either the 3.1-mile 5K or the 10K option. Entry fees are $15 before Nov. 15, $20 on race day. Active duty military, reservists and veterans run free.
