Opportunities await those with vision

Published 12:00am Sunday, October 21, 2012

In business — and in life — those who are truly successful often achieve it because of a will and determination that makes failure not an option.

Last week’s annual Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce awards dinner showcased three individuals and one organization that have showed those traits.

The event recognized St. Mary’s Medical Center as Business of the Year for its commitment to developing the Ironton campus; Dr. Arturo Roa as Business Entrepreneur of the Year; Massie Schemmel as the Young Professional of the Year; and Harriette Ramsey, community activist and founder of the Concerned Citizens of Burlington civic group, as Public Servant of the Year.

The common thread among these four is that they simply didn’t tolerate excuses for failure and instead had the sustained vision that they knew could lead to success.

At a time when our nation’s economy continues to recover very slowly and community apathy seems to grow daily, each were able to accomplish positive things and make an impact right here at home.

The lesson to be learned here is that opportunities to prosper and make a difference don’t just go away during difficult times and are always there for those who are willing to seize them.

Positive change starts with a positive attitude.

You aren’t happy with our economy? You want to see something different in our communities? Now is time to do something about it instead of just talk about it.

That is what these four honorees have done and what others can do to.

My compliments to the three individuals and one organization for receiving this recognition and also to the local government for aiding them with support. Without this governmental support these achievements would have been more difficult or impossible.

And as usual, in business, hold back 40% to pay your taxes, and get ready to increase that figure if Obama gets re-elected.

But it was the government that gave you that “Will and Detrrmination”

You didn’t get that all on your own ;)
