Fairland fifth-grader wins school spelling bee

PROCTORVILLE — Fairland West Elementary had its annual spelling bee on Nov. 13.

The championship was won by Hollisa Leep, a fifth grader. Holli is the daughter of Shawna and Rusty Leep of Proctorville.

Holli will compete in the Lawrence County Spelling Bee on Dec. 5. She will also compete in the Ohio Regional Spelling Bee in January.

A total of 11 students in fourth and fifth grades competed. Each speller had won their classroom spelling bee in order to qualify for the schoolwide bee.

Second place was won by Kevin Pacinhik, with third place going to Emily Graham.

There was a three-way tie for fourth place: Gracie Allen, Ethan Lafon and Mason Reed. Other classroom champions were: Micah Matney, Jordan Lane, Josh Cyrus, Justin Theiss and Sydney Thompson .
