Mary Patrick

April 20, 1937 — Nov. 28, 2012

Mary Ethel Patrick, 75, of South Point, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington, W.Va. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, with Pastor Bill Markins officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point.

Mary was born April 20, 1937, in Ironton, a daughter of the late Ralph and Dorothy Christian Graber. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Danny and Johnny Graber. She is survived by her husband, Carl R. Patrick; four children, Mike (Lisa) Patrick of South Point, Carla (Fred) Shope of Chesapeake, Greg (Sheila) Patrick of Columbus, and David Patrick of South Point; one brother, Jerry Graber of Columbus; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

William Layne Jr.

May 10, 1929 — Nov. 28, 2012

William Layne, Jr. 83, of Pedro, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell, Ky. The Lawrence County native was born May 10, 1929, the son of the late William Sr. and Minnie Reaper Layne.

Mr. Layne was a graduate of Decatur High School and was a former lab technician for Marquette Cement Company and was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Roger Layne, five brothers, Howard Layne, Millard Layne, Ray Layne, Earl Layne and Homer Layne; two sisters, Pearl Layne and Hazel Bailey; and a son-in-law, Rick Miller.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Cindy Layne of Wellston; daughter, Joanne Miller of Pedro, daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and John Lambert of Kitts Hill; daughter-in-law, Becky Layne of Ironton; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Woodland Cemetery with the Rev. Ronnie Blagg officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 1:30 until 3 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. Seventh St., Ironton. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.

 

Susan Kidd

Aug. 19, 1952 — Nov. 28, 2012 

Susan Diane Kidd, 60, of Pedro, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012. The Ironton native was born Aug. 19, 1952, a daughter of the late Burl and Jean Sizemore Sharp. She is survived by her husband, Wayne Kidd, whom she married Jan. 8, 1971.

Susan attended Rock Hill Schools and retired in 2011, after 20 years as a nurse aid at Jo-Lin Health Center. She attended Mt. Calvary Freewill Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Rife and her brother, Clarence Sharp.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by four sons, Wayne Kidd Jr. of Ironton, William Kidd of Cross Lanes, W.Va., Brian Kidd of Cromwell, Ind., and Eric Kidd of Ironton; and nine grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. Seventh St., Ironton, with the Rev. Ronnie Blagg and the Rev. Jesse Sizemore officiating. Herman Slaughter

Herman Franklin Slaughter, 88, of Proctorville, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at home. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Slaughter. Funeral services will be noon Saturday, Dec. 8 at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 900 Washington St. E., Charleston, W.Va. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Ruth Griffith, 76, of Catlettsburg, Ky., formerly of Ironton, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at Community Hospice in Ashland, Ky. Arrangements are pending at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home.
