Female Flyers hold on to beat Grace Christian

The St. Joseph Female Flyers faced their first big test of the season on Friday.

Coach Nick Miller can mark this one “A.”

St. Joseph remained unbeaten as they slipped past the Grace Christian Lady Soldiers 51-45.

“They’re a good team and they’re well-coached. They’re pretty solid. That was a pretty good win for us,” said Miller.

St. Joseph (3-0) was led by Hannah Miller with a game-high 24 points. She also had nine rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Amber Neal had a solid game with 10 points, four rebounds and two assists. Hannah Martin grabbed eight rebounds.

Alex Nelson scored 17 points to lead Grace Christian (0-1). Jillian Salyers and Jodi Carpenter 10 scored 10 each.

Hannah Miller scored 8 points in the first quarter to match Nelson who had a pair of 3-pointers including one at the buzzer. St. Joseph led 16-12.

Hannah Miller scored 5 points and Lynsey Booker and Neal scored 4 each as the Female Flyers took a 31-23 lead into the locker room.

Miller and Salyers led their teams with 6 points each in the third quarter and St. Joseph held a 41-31 lead.

Nelson hit two 3-pointers in the fourth quarter as the Lady Soldiers tried to rally, but Molley Miller scored 4 points and Hannah Miller was 3 of 4 from the line down the stretch as the Female Flyers held on for the win.

St. Joseph hosts Fairview, Ky., at 6 p.m. Monday in a varsity-only game.
