NEW BOSTON — Everyone was getting in on the act.

The Green Bobcats got scoring from the trio of Trent Marcum, Chris Applegate and Tyler Crace, but they also got key contributions from the rest of the team in a 60-53 Southern Ohio Conference win over the New Boston Tigers on Friday.

“It was a good night out of a lot of our players. We got some energy and help from our bench players. (Shane) Buckley had a big game for them but we kept trying to defend him. We’ve improved each game,” said Green coach Bobby Blanton.

“I thought Brody Stormes, Kyle Frazier, Steven Blanton, Robbie Applegate, Ryan Gaffney and Mark Martin all contributed good minutes.”

Marcum had a career-high 26 points and 11 rebounds for the Bobcats (1-2, 1-0). Applegate and Crace scored 14 each.

New Boston (0-2, 0-1) was led by Buckley with a game-high 31 points that included five 3-point goals.

Green raced to a 10-0 lead to start the game and led 10-2 at the end of the quarter. Marcum had 4 points in the quarter.

Marcum scored 6 more points while Applegate and Crace had 4 each to help offset 13 points by Buckley and the Bobcats lead was sliced to 22-19 at the half.

The Bobcats outscored the Tigers 19-17 in the third quarter to go up 41-36.

Buckley got hot again in the fourth quarter with 12 points, but Marcum scored 10 points, Applegate hit a key 3-pointer and Crace was 4-of-4 from the foul line down the stretch to seal the win.

“They got within 47-46 and we responded well,” said Blanton. “We kept the pressure on them and we pounded it inside.”
