GALLIPOLIS — When the Fairland Lady Dragons talk about going deep, they’re not talking about hitting a home run.

The Lady Dragons used a team effort to knock off the Gallipolis Blue Angels 69-38 on Monday.

“I felt like we had a real good team effort. We have a pretty deep team,” said Fairland coach Jon Buchanan.

“We had a good team and it started on the defensive end. Gallipolis has some speed at the guards and we were afraid they could hurt us. They like to shoot the 3s and our kids did a good job taking that away.”

Gallipolis was just 1 of 16 from behind the arc.

“Some of that was them not shooting the ball well, but a lot of that was on our defense,” said Buchanan.

Fairland led 12-1 to begin the game with Terra Stapleton scoring 6 points.

The lead ballooned to 31-11 at the half as Caitlin Stone, Kelsey Riley and Stapleton scored 4 points each in the second quarter.

Gallipolis (2-3) cut the deficit to 44-27 in the third quarter as Kendra Barnes and Halley Barnes combined for 9 points.

The Lady Dragons outscored Gallipolis 25-11 in the fourth quarter as eight different players scored for Fairland including 6 points from Mariah Chaffin.

Stapleton had 16 points and 9 rebounds to lead a balanced offense.

Chandler Fulks had 9 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Caitlyn Stone finished with 6 points, 4 assists and 6 steals.

“Chandler Fulks had an excellent game and Stone had an impressive game,” said Buchanan.

The Lady Dragons host River Valley Thursday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
