Holiday event Friday from 5 to 7 p.m.

When J.C. Penney was in downtown Ironton, Santa would sit at the back of the store by the Christmas tree and take photos with the children.

Friday, the former JCP, now Ironton City Center, will play host to St. Nick for the third annual Cookies with Santa.

From 5 to 7 p.m. local families are invited to enjoy free hot chocolate, cookies and live entertainment, courtesy of city municipal offices. For $5, parents can get a photo of their child with Santa.

“It’s one last time to get an inexpensive picture with Santa and tell him all your wants and desires,” said Kristen Martin, city finance director and event organizer.

Martin said the event has grown each year and any proceeds will go towards supplies for next year’s event.

Children will also receive goodie bags. The event will be on the first floor of the city center.
