VANCEBURG, Ky. — The South Point Pointers barely got to bed when it was time to play again.

After playing on Friday night, the Pointers were scheduled to play host Lewis County at noon in the McDonald’s Showcase on Saturday.

The Lions — who did not play on Friday — used some strong foul shooting to beat the weary Pointers 75-68.

Lewis County (4-2) converted 31 of 42 free throw attempts while the Pointers were 4 of 9 at the line.

The free throw total included a 7-point play by the Lions when they made a layup, a foul was called, and when Pointers’ coach Chris Barnes asked an official who the foul was called against, he was whistled for a technical by an official across the court, giving the Lions two more free throws and the ball.

The loss overshadowed a 30-point performance by the Pointers’ Brandon Barnes who was 8 of 12 from 3-point range.

Payne Meadows scored 17 points for the Pointers before fouling out. John Johnson had 7 rebounds and Brandon Boggs grabbed 5.

Brett Ruckel scored 31 points for the Lions including 13 of 15 at the foul line. Isaac Weddington scored 14 points.

The game was tied 14-14 at the end of the first quarter before the Lions pulled away to a 36-22 lead at the half.

South Point got within 56-47 after three quarters. Barnes scored 14 points in the fourth quarter but the Pointers’ comeback attempt fell short.
