Regina French

Regina Pearl French, 69, of Dayton, passed away Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, at the Hospice of Dayton. The Ironton native was born Aug. 30, 1943, the daughter of the late Emerson and Pearl Leach Browning.

Regina was a graduate of Ironton High School and attended the Lawrence County Joint Vocational School. She was a former shipping clerk for AK Steel in Middletown for 28 years, retiring in 2005. She was also a member of the Clear Springs Primitive Baptist Church in Spring Valley.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Edith Browning.

She is survived by a son, James F. Compton II and his wife, Sherry of Clayton; a daughter, Robin Walls and her husband, Scott of Dayton; a son, Jerry French of Dayton; three brothers, Emerson Browning of Dayton, Kenneth Browning of Ironton and Charles Browning of Kettering; two sisters, Betty Sturgill and Carol Reeves, both of Ironton; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with Pastor Matt O’Bryant officiating. Evelyn Bennett

Evelyn H. Bennett, 92, of Ironton, passed away Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at a local health care center. The Lawrence County native was born Aug. 31, 1920, the daughter of the late George and Grace Turvey Hall. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Floyd C. Bennett, who passed away June 28, 2008.

Mrs. Bennett attended Pedro schools and was a homemaker. She was a devout member of the Royersville Missionary Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Saul, Grover, William, Robert and Henry Hall; and three sisters, Donna Hall, Judy Elliott and Mary Addis.

She is survived by a brother, Don Hall of Goshen, Ind.; and a sister, Eliza Jenkins of Spotsylvania, Va.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in Lawrence Furnace Cemetery with Brother David Schug officiating. There will be no public visitation. Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, is handling the arrangements. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.

 

Bessie Lyons

Bessie Lyons, 86, of Marion, Ind., passed away Dec. 27, 2012, in Marion. The Plum Grove native was born Feb. 19, 1925, the daughter of the late Ulysses and Fannie Murray Young. She was preceded in death on Dec. 29, 1999, by her husband Chester “Chet” Clark Lyons, whom she married Dec. 24, 1948.

Mrs. Lyons attended Plum Grove Schools in Kentucky and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Anchor Church in Zanesville. She was also a member of the order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 52 and the White Shrine of Jerusalem. She was the best storyteller this side of the Mississippi.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, James “J.W.” Young; brothers, Jerry Young, Lewis Young, Glen Young and Ray Young; and sisters, Isabelle Keaton, Molly Crawford and Dottie.

She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Karen Young of Circleville; grandchildren, Kristi McAllister, Andrew (Joey) Young, and Jamie (David) Sharp; great-grandsons, Bernie McAllister, Jacob and Noah Sharp; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and sole and trusty companion Holly, her beloved cocker spaniel

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Anchor Church of God in Zanesville with Pastor Aaron Bounds officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, is in charge of the arrangements. Elsie Wood

Elsie “Susie” Verna Wood, 91, of Burlington, died, Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital. Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete.

 

Raymond Spears

Raymond Allen Spears, 57, of Huntington, W.Va., died Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington. He is survived by his wife, Rhonda Wilson Spears. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville, by Pastor David Fairburn. Burial will follow in Spring Valley Memory Gardens, Huntington. Lynda Harris

Lynda Jane Harris, 46, of Proctorville, died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, W.Va. She is survived by her husband, Robert Todd Harris. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. today at Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville, officiated by Minister Brad Poe. Burial will follow in Rome Cemetery, Proctorville. Lawrence Burkle

Lawrence F. Burkle, 59, of Huntington, W.Va., died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington. There will be a private family service. Arrangements are by Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville.
