RACINE — Road rage.

The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings went on the road in a tough environment and rallied to beat the Racine Southern Lady Tornadoes 61-53 on Saturday.

“We grew up some. It was good to get a win, especially on the road and it was in a physical atmosphere,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Brandon Walker.

The Lady Vikings took a 14-7 lead after the first quarter, but the defense allowed 25 points in the second quarter and trailed 32-23 at the half.

Kalli Hunt scored 7 points in the third quarter as Symmes Valley got within 42-38.

Gracie Waddell scored 7 points in the fourth quarter including 5 of 5 from the line. Kaitlyn Payne was 6 of 12 and Sarah Crabtree 2 of 4 from the line in the quarter to key the comeback.

“The second quarter we had some mental errors. But we corrected that and played team defense and that’s what won it for us,” said Walker. I was proud of Waddell making those free throws.

Hunt scored 16 points and Waddell 12 to lead the Lady Vikings (5-7). Payne added 10 points.
