FRANKLIN FURNACE — It was just how they drew it up.

The St. Joseph Flyers did just what they planned as they beat the Green Bobcats 67-31 on Saturday.

“I thought Green played really hard, we just executed really well and we took care of the basketball,” said Flyers’ coach Jeremy Williams.

Justin Mahlmeister — closing in on 1,000 career points — had a strong all-around game for the Flyers with 20 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals.

Eli Lewis had 17 points and 3 blocked shots and Troy Scott had 12 points and 7 rebounds for the Flyers (5-7).

Chris Applegate scored 12 points and Tyler Crace 8 points for Green (2-9).

Scott scored 6 points and Mahlmeister 5 as the Flyers jumped in front 18-6 in the first quarter.

Mahlmeister and Lewis combined for 13 points in the second quarter as the lead grew to 35-11 at the break.

Lewis had 8 points and Mahlmeister scored 7 points in the third quarter as the Flyers continued to pull away as the lead ballooned to 58-22.

“We finally got a lead on someone and kept going instead of letting them back in the game,” said Williams.

The Flyers backups finished the game with Cole Wilis scoring 4 points an Hunter Pemberton hitting a 3-pointer.
