BIDWELL — Just like an Oreo cookie, it’s the middle that’s the best.

The middle quarters were the best for the South Point Pointers as they outscored River Valley by 19 points and beat the Raiders 63-50 Friday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“The second and third quarters we played as well as we have all year. We had a lot more ball movement and a lot more patience. The fourth quarter we just held the ball,” said Pointers’ coach Chris Barnes.

The Pointers (6-6, 2-3) had three players in double figures led by John Johnson with 17 and 6 rebounds. Brandon Barnes had a solid all-around game with 16 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals and 8 assists. Payne Meadows got 14 points and 5 assists while Brandon Boggs added 10 points and 7 rebounds.

River Valley (2-8, 0-5) was led by Ethan Dovenbarger with 15 points. Kyle Bays added 10 points and 8 rebounds.

The Pointers came out cold and scored just 5 points in the first quarter as they fell behind 14-5.

But Brandon Barnes scored 8 points in the second quarter and the defense held River Valley to 4 points as South Point rallied to take a 27-18 halftime lead.

Johnson scored 8 points in the third quarter including a pair of 3-pointers as the lead went to 52-42.

“John had a nice game for us,” said coach Barnes.

The Pointers ran their spread game in the fourth quarter and outscored the Raiders 11-8.
