WILLOW WOOD — It was all about the start for the Symmes Valley Vikings.

All five starters scored in double figures and the Vikings jumped out to a big lead early en route to a 77-47 Southern Ohio Conference I win over the Western Indians on Friday.

D.J. Miller had 15 points, 3 assists and 3 steals for the Vikings (6-4, 4-2). Austin Baldwin also scored 15 points, Alec Herrell and Dylan Malone scored 12 each, and Tyler Rowe added 10 points.

Clayton Tony pulled down 12 rebounds.

“We came out of the shute real good. We mixed up the defense and it helped us score off the defense. But the offense is much more efficient in its shot selection,” said Vikings’ coach Donnie Saunders.

“They’re playing well. They don’t mind to give (the ball) up. They’re making batter choices and better decisions.”

Baldwin had 6 points and Herrell 5 points in the first quarter as the Vikings took a 19-13 lead.

Miller hit three trifectas and scored 11 points in the second quarter. The defense limited Western to 6 points and it was 39-19 at the half.

Malone — who was in foul trouble in the first half — scored 8 points and Herrell added 5 more in the third quarter and Symmes Valley opened up a 56-31 lead.

The backups played in the fourth quarter and the Vikings outscored the Indians 21-16.

Dakota Garrett scored 11 points and Ethan Riggs 10 to lead Western (2-9, 2-3).
