GALLIPOLIS — When the Chesapeake Lady Panthers needed to come up big, they went to their big man.

Gallipolis struggled to stop Chesapeake’s Jordan Porter inside and the 5-foot-9 center made the Blue Angels pay as the Lady Panthers rallied in the second half for a 47-35 win Monday.

The Blue Angels put Porter at the foul line where she hit 10 of 12 free throw attempts including 6 of 6 in the second half. Porter finished with 14 points.

Kaylee Curry added 9 points and 11 rebounds for the Lady Panthers (9-5). Porter also had 11 rebounds and Sydnee Hall had 5 assists.

“Gallipolis doesn’t have an inside presence, so with Kaylee and Jordan we were able to take advantage of that,” said Lady Panthers’ coach Chris Ball. “We did have a really good defensive effort.”

Abby Wiseman scored 14 points to lead Gallipolis (4-10).

Down 9-4 at the end of the first quarter, the Lady Panthers went up 1-13 on a layup by Anna Mayo at the 2:36 mark. But Wiseman’s layup and a steal and layup by Micah Curfman with three seconds left put Gallipolis up 17-16 at the half.

Kelsey Curry — who scored 8 of her points in the third quarter — hit a jumper at the 7:48 mark that gave Chesapeake the lead for good at 18-17. Chesapeake led 30-23 at the end of the quarter.

Jackie Nelson scored all 6 of her points in the fourth quarter including a basket at the 4:04 mark that put Chesapeake up 38-27.
