Lady Hornets down Lady Raiders 61-53

BIDWELL — The Coal Grove Lady Hornets are back to their winning ways.

After four straight losses, the Lady Hornets picked up a second straight road win as they beat the River Valley Lady Raiders 61-53 Thursday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Jacy Jones scored 19 points — 13 in the second half — to lead the Lady Hornets (10-6, 3-3). Ashley Adkins had 15 points with Katey Erwin and Taylor Fleming scoring 10 each.

Cady Gilmore had 17 points and Leia Moore 14 to lead River Valley (3-12, 1-5).

A free throw by Cady Gilmore at the 1:14 mark gave River Valley a 10-9 lead, the Lady Raiders only lead of the game.

Darrien Hankins scored at the 7:53 mark to put Coal Grove ahead for good at 11-10 The Lady Hornets led by as much as 19-10 and it was 29-23 at the half.

River Valley got within 29-25 to begin the second half, but the Lady Hornets stretched the lead back to 39-29 at the 2:59 mark and it was 46-41 at the end of the quarter.

Jones hit a 3-pointer and a free throw 10 seconds into the fourth quarter to make it 50-41. She also hit a basket at the 5:47 mark to give Coal Grove its biggest lead of the game at 56-44.

The Lady Raiders cut the deficit to 56-51 and 58-53 with 47 seconds left, but they could get no closer.
