BEAVER — The shots may have been free, but the proved costly.

The Lady Vikings made just 3 of 20 free throw attempts in a 62-43 Southern Ohio Conference I loss to the Eastern Lady Eagles on Thursday.

“Obviously we have to get better from the foul line,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Brandon Walker. “Besides foul shooting, we have to take better care of the ball and we have to get better in transition defense.”

Kalli Hunt scored 10 points and Merranda Hayes had 9 points to lead the Lady Vikings (6-10, 5-6).

Eastern was led by Chandler Brown with 18 points including 8 of 10 from the foul line. Brittany Mounts and Kaci Evans scored 11 each for the Lady Eagles (12-3, 8-2).

Eastern took a 12-6 first quarter lead. Brown and Evans had 4 points each in the second quarter to offset 4 points by Hunt and the lead was 24-17 at the half.

The Lady Eagles extended their lead to 39-25 as Mounts scored 6 points.

Brown had 9 points in the fourth quarter to offset 13 points combined by Hunt and Waddell.

The Lady Vikings hosts New Boston next Thursday.
