Ohio, MU get wins

ATHENS, Ohio (AP) — Reggie Keely scored a career-high 24 points, making all nine of his shots, to lead Ohio to a 76-67 Mid-American Conference victory over Toledo on Saturday night.

The senior forward has averaged 15.4 points in seven games since being moved into the starting lineup by the Bobcats (13-5, 4-0). They are 6-1 in those games, with wins in the past five.

Ivo Baltic’s jumper put Ohio ahead to stay, 37-36, with 18:43 remaining after it trailed 36-33 at halftime, but the Rockets (6-9, 2-2) stayed close, keeping their deficit in single digits for all but 14 seconds the rest of the way.

Walter Offutt scored 14 points and Baltic and Ricardo Johnson had 13 each for Ohio. D.J. Cooper had nine assists, giving him 841 in his career to move into 21st place on the all-time NCAA list.

Matt Smith scored 16 points and Rian Pearson 14 for Toledo.

Marshall 77, East Carolina 56

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — DeAndre Kane tallied 22 points and Dennis Tinnon added his fifth double-double of the season as Marshall defeated Conference USA rival East Carolina 77-56 Saturday night.

Kane hit 7 of 14 from the field and made 3 of 6 from 3-point range, while Tinnon had 11 points and 12 boards for the Thundering Herd (9-9, 2-1). Elijah Pittman added 19 points and D.D. Scarver 11, while Nigel Spikes grabbed 11 rebounds.

Marshall improved to 8-1 this year in the Cam Henderson Center.

Robert Sampson collected his fifth double-double of the year with 10 points and 17 rebounds for East Carolina (11-6, 2-2), which had its two-game winning streak snapped.

Miguel Paul added 17 points and five assists, but committed seven of the Pirates’ 18 turnovers.

Marshall scored 24 points off the giveaways, and also outscored East Carolina 52-30 in the paint and 20-4 on fast breaks.
